Cast Down the Waters : A Bosnia in Flames
Published in Hardcover by GoldenIsle Publishers, Inc. (July, 2000)
Author: Clifford J. Moody
Average review score:

A page turner
Moody is a first-rate writer. Extensive research is in evidence in this novel--no tongue-in-the-cheek stuff. The characters come alive in this page-turner. The reach and scope of the writer's grasp of his material indicates a new talent to be reckoned with by the critics and readers.

Cast Down the Waters
For sure--there's something here for anybody up to getting lost in a good story. What struck me straight off in this Saga of Fate and Love and War was the uncanny method used to project the character of Sonya right up there on the screen at the outset for all following would-be rivals to be weighed against--weighed against the backdrop of her vivid countenance, of the quiet courage and reach displayed by this astounding woman. And then as the story unfolds, the realism, the running suspense, the diverse and blood-real characters woven, thread by thread, by an uncommon hand into the ancient tapestry of this brooding, faraway land...From the rough and ready Cil, dogged at every turn by old passions tempered by conscience...To the pert, sometimes smart, ever willful if scheming Michelle, who, if need be to accomplish her ends, would take on the blast of the sun...To the old mountain man, relic of the past, a stout and weathered oak, yet beneath the rough bark, at the core, betraying the very heart and rhythms of life.

Rating Cast Down The Water
Very informative, and enlightening. I would love to read more of Mr. Moody's material. Looking forward to future books!

The American Crow and the Common Raven (The W.L. Moody Jr Natural History Series, No 10)
Published in Paperback by Texas A&M University Press (March, 1991)
Authors: Lawrence Kilham and Joan Waltermire
Average review score:

Don't forget the illustrations!
There are more than enough reasons to pick up this book if you have any interest in crows or birds in general or even seeing a good example of descriptive biological studies, however one point missed by others are the beautiful illustrations in this volume that are well above average for a science book.

There are very few books about Corvids, and even fewer based on North American research, but this wonderful volume is a solid step in the right direction that is both well informed while also personable, leaving one to hope that future volumes or at least more research on these birds will result.

Any Corvid enthusiasts should purchase this book without hesitation as it is a relatively inexpensive and irreplacible contribution to the literature.

Detailed observations of corvid behavior
With a keen observer's eye and a flair for marvelous prose, Kilham has written a book that is not only an important resource for researchers in behavioral biology, but also a delightful read for any nature lover.

GREAT!!!
I thought that this book was very informative and easy to read. I research on corvid communication and even found the book to have VERY important information. Anyone interested in birds in general should read this book!

Answers to Prayer: From George Mueller's Narratives (Moody Classics)
Published in Paperback by Moody Publishers (October, 1984)
Author: George Mueller
Average review score:

Great and inspiring book!
This is one of my favorite books. I have been so encouraged and my faith enriched by this book!

Power of Prayer and Mr. Mueller's work with English Orphans
I read this book years ago while I was just a teenager. Just today I turned 30. Since the time I was a young teenager I have had a burden to help troubled children. The book only fueled my desire to work with children. I am also a devout Christian and know the tremendous power that prayer can bring into one's life. It is 2:32am where I am at and although it has been over 15 years since I read this book, I woke up after several dreams tonight with George Mueller's life on my mind. I can't rest until I know even more about George Mueller's life. I need direction in the way that I am to serve. The book is that powerful. More importantly, the testimony of Mr. Mueller's faith and dedication have inspired me to commit my life to the service of God. I hope you are inspired as well.

Incredible testimony to the power of prayer!
I'm about to begin reading George Mueller's Autobiography. Answers to prayer is an amazing testimony to the power of prayer in one man's life, and it shows how every believer can appropriate the promises of God for themselves.

Dead Air: A Cycling Murder Mystery
Published in Paperback by Velo Press (May, 2002)
Author: Greg Moody
Average review score:

Hang on to your cycling shorts!
Greg Moody's books are a fun habit. If you have any interest whatsoever in professional cycling (and who doesn't after Lance Armstrong's feats) read Greg's books. You'll get an inside, albeit wild and crazy look at the peloton. You definitely should read the books in the order written (this is the fifth in the series), to understand the history of Will Ross, a washed-up bike racer who has years of European pro cycling under his belt, but always manages to get in one last ride, or one last season, in each of the books. In the latest, he is on staff at a Denver TV news station, and is sent to cover a ride through the Rockies. Mayhem predictably follows, and Will must try to clear his name, find and outwit a mad-bomber, get along with his mobster in-laws, and take yet another ride-of-his-life. Hang on to your cycling shorts!

Must read...
...as a followup for Deadroll. It extends the previous book which seemed to end abruptly without proper ending. The writing style of Greg Moody is very natural, so the book reads very fast. So read the Dead Air and learn bomber's fate.

Another Great Read from G. Moody
Fans of Will Ross will not be disappointed with this much anticipated followup to Deadroll. My only problem is I read the book too fast. I guess I'll have to start over with book 1 and read the whole series. Long live Will Ross!

The Perfect Engine: How to Win in the New Demand Economy by Building to Order with Fewer Resources
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (16 October, 2001)
Authors: Anand Sharma and Patricia E. Moody

Language Spanish
My company where i am working wants to buy this book for all the managers, but i would like to know if you have available this book in spanish? I hope you can give me an answer asap... Many thanks!

"Perfection" Is a Journey....
Don't be deterred by the title. (Initially, I was.) It was probably selected for marketing purposes. Sharma and Moody know better than to claim that the system they propose (what they call "LeanSigma Transformation Process") is in all ways -- and will remain forever -- a "perfect engine" by which to achieve "profitable growth that serves all the constituents of an enterprise." Any system is only as effective as those involved within it. We all know how many perfect workers there are. What Sharma and Moody present in this volume is a cohesive, comprehensive, and cost-effective system by which to meet all manner of challenges by "building to order with fewer resources." Presumably they would be the first to point out that any such system, presented in a book, must be modified to accommodate the specific needs, interest, objectives, and resources of a given organization. Moreover, although the primary focus is on manufacturing, the principles are so sound that they can also be of substantial value to non-manufacturing enterprises such as those in retail merchandising, management consulting, banking, accounting, legal, insurance, and even advertising. All organizations need to improve cycle time and first-pass yield. Also, all organizations must do that with finite (sometimes severely limited) resources. Finally, all organizations most become (literally) obsessed with kaizen: constant improvement. Therefore, I highly recommend this book to decision-makers in all organizations (regardless of size or nature) but with the single caveat that appropriate modifications of the LeanSigma Transformation Process first be made.

Sharma and Moody carefully organize their excellent material within ten chapters. In the first, they suggest and then explain "A Better Way"; in the last, they shift their attention to "The Future." Throughout their book, they make effective use of the "journey" metaphor, correctly asserting that, once begun, the LeanSigma Transformation Process never ends. "This is a journey that concentrates the energy of an entire enterprise and focuses efforts to serve customers better, faster, with better quality products and responsiveness, ultimately leading to gains in market share." Several dozen mini-case studies (e.g. Maytag) demonstrate precisely HOW such objectives can be achieved. In the final chapter, Sharma and Moody offer these thoughts: "Keep the long-term perspective. This journey is part of a larger movement, just as kaizen breakthrough is the the enabler of LeanSigma Transformation, and Design for LeanSigma revolutionized process and product design for increased responsiveness and mass customization. [The current business circumstances worldwide] create a long-awaited window of opportunity, and it is our responsibility to be prepared, to have the best workers, the best tools, and the energetic leadership required because an opportunity like this comes only once in every hundred and fifty years."

Those who share my high regard for this book are urged to check out David Maister's Practice What You Preach, Michael Hammer's The Agenda, Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan's Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done, and James O'Toole's Leading Change.

The Perfect Engine is the perfect solution!
This book contains clear and practical guidance that anyone can use to turn a company around. After applying examples from the book to our factory we increased productivity and lowered inventory within weeks! LeanSigma is the new road to manufacturing success.

Taking the best from lean and Six Sigma methodologies to create LeanSigma is a brilliant idea. The Perfect Engine gives innovative examples that are easy to apply to any environment and quickly transform an organization into a more responsive and agile enterprise.

This book is a must read for line managers and other supply chain managers who want to stay competitive in today's market.

The Fields of Home
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (April, 1993)
Authors: Ralph Moody, Edward Shenton, and Tran Mawicke
Average review score:

An easy book to read. Pleasing and relaxing
I enjoyed this book. Though not a literary classic, it's a great book for a lazy summer afternoon. Written in a very traditional style, you can easily picture the scences being described. The characters are believable, especially if you're familiar with rural life.

More Reality Than One Might Think
Ralph Moody had the knack for "art-for-art's-sake" disguise. One important ingredient of his books that is seldom included in the reviews is the historical reality of the characters. If one was brought up ( as I was ) in Maine, farming with horses - the reality of the narrative is apparent. Reviewers not intimate with this culture and time still use terms such as "believable" in describing this book. The reason for this believability is simple - Moody was writing about real people who actually existed! Tom Gould ( the Grandfather ) was a Civil War Vet - Company I, 16th Maine; he actually did work the farm described in the book; his father, Jacob, actually did clear the farm from the wilderness; Tom actually was born when his father was 72, etc., etc. A boulder in nearby Hillside Cemetery in Lisbon memorializes Jacob, Tom and the farm which is the setting for this book. This is a cultural thumbprint of turn-of-the-century Maine . One might also explore the writings of another of Tom's grandsons ( and Ralph Moody's first cousin ), Maine author, John Gould.

Ralph and his Grandfather
The whole set of Ralph Moody books rank at the very top of read-aloud books with our children. We have read them all several times. This is my favorite. What a powerful story of the contending of wills between an old man and his grandson. You won't forget this story.

Judy Moody Gets Famous
Published in Paperback by Candlewick Press (April, 2003)
Authors: Megan McDonald and Peter Reynolds
Average review score:

A Girl With a Mood
Judy Moody is a must read for those who like comedy. It is about a girl named Judy who doesn't like this boy named Frank. Frank has feelings for her. Slowly, Judy starts to like her more and more. Judy and her other friend start a club and Rocky, her best friend, says most clubs have three people. Later, they invite Frank because they start to learn Frank is a nice kid. This book is guaranteed to make you laugh.

Being Famous Is More Then Just Fun!!
Judy Moody Gets Famous!

Have you ever heard of Judy Moody Gets Famous? Well you ran into a book that will keep you reading for hours! This book is about a girl that well in my opinion is crazy, but not wacko out of the world, you know has weird friends for example Franky, he collects bugs or Jessica, who is a spelling bee queen! Her brother is named Stink. In this book Judy Moody tries to get famous, her friend Franky brakes his finger, and has to go to the hospital. She goes with him. She has to wait in the waiting room, where she finds a girl that looks pretty bored. Judy asks, "Why aren't you playing with your dolls?" the girl says, "Because one of them has a broken head and they all have torn legs, and their arms are a mess." As usual, Judy Moody gets to work. She wants this girl to have fun. I will not tell you anything else, because then you'd know the whole book.

Judy Moody's mood

I think that Judy Moody is very strange but not in a weird way, in a fun way!! She is nice to her friends. She can get in fights sometimes, but always makes up. On the other hand, her family is strange too. I mean, a cat named mouse and a brother named Stink? Talk about weird.
At first Judy Moody freaked me out. Then she got funny. Then hilarious. Then my eyes are stuck on the book.

The Information Paragraph
Judy Moody really reminds me of Junie B. Jones because they both like to be in the middle of things. It also reminded me of my friend Katie because she is very funny , nice to talk to and love s this book just like I do !This book is by Megan McDonald, and illustrated by Peter Raynold. They also
wrote Judy Moody and Judy Moody saves the world. You can find these books at any bookstore or library.

THE END!!

I really liked this book!
This book will make you laugh. The illustrations in this book are very cute. I liked the part of the book where Judy and Rocky start a club called "The Toad Pee Club" because a toad peed on them. Kids who read the "Junie B. Jones" series will probably like the Judy Moody books, but the Judy Moody books are a little longer...

Lithium for Medea: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Seven Stories Press (April, 2002)
Authors: Kate Braverman and Rick Moody
Average review score:

Impressed, but not overly so.
Maybe I expected it to be better, but I found parts of this book a chore to wade through.

I appreciate that in real life people do go over and over the same scenes in their head, but it felt like Braverman had simply cut and pasted paragraphs from one chapter to another.

I guess I'm not the kind of reader who enjoys rereading sections for their lyricism, so I felt like I was being forced to do so against my will.

Hard to complain because it is so much better than most of the stuff I have read lately. That being said, I'd recommend Mark of an Angel, Virgin Suicides, and Ice Storm prior to this.

Perhaps if you are a drug addict with a cancerous gambler for a Dad, you will find that this is a perfect snapshot of your life and a motivating force. But for someone on the outside looking in, it's simply a very well written book about these people that repeats itself just a couple times more than I would have liked.

A Paean Validating Kate Braverman's "Lithium For Medea"'
I've read this book and have taken its significance personally.
However, the lyricism stands above that of male authors who
originally capitalized on the trend to glorify, explain and
identify with abuse of cocaine.
And it isn't that simple. I commend Kate Braverman for not taking a simplified polemic view of "rehabilitation." Writing something versed in poetry and greek tradition draws out the tragedy much more poignantly than anything else I've ever read.
The language employed in this novel elevates it to art. And I just can't say that about contemporaneous works on the same subject written by male authors.
So Reprint, Reprint, Reprint, and realize that other women of my generation might deign to listen to a genuine, artistic, beautiful rendition of something with which they may identify.
Sincerely,
Lydia Hazen

Women, Beautifully-Crafted Prose, and Drug Addiction
This book is tremendous, and I agree with the other review: Get This Book Back Into Print! Braverman began as a poet, and you can see it in her own unique style. After reading her incredible prose, you'll understand why she has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. The story is about a woman heavily addicted to cocaine, whose dad is heavily into gambling ("the horses") and is also afflicted with cancer. It's about the woman's struggle to get away from both the white powder as well as from the bad men who've helped her get addicted. You will not read better-crafted prose than this novel...

Ryrie Study Bible: Black Regular
Published in Hardcover by Northfield Pub (April, 1999)
Authors: Charles C. Ryrie and Moody Press
Average review score:

A great Study Bible
I have to admit that I am something of a study Bible collector, I'm afraid. However, with all of the Bibles I have, when it is time to teach, or put together a lesson, my NASB Ryrie is the one I reach for. First of all, I love the layout of the text. It is two-column, with the cross-references on the outside margins. When I look at other Bibles, the text layout does not seem as easy to read as the Ryrie.

Ryrie's book outline is presented in the introduction of each book of the Bible and then is found throughout the book as well. The notes, though not as extensive as some might like, are unobtrusive yet helpful.

The concordance at the back of this Bible seems to be a pretty good one and the articles on Bible doctrine are great.

I highly recommend both the NASB and the Ryrie for serious Bible students and teachers.

Excellent
This is an excellent NASB Bible. There are many notes and references that help a lot when preparing for Bible lessons or studying. Again, this is an excellent Bible.

Ryrie Study Bible is Excellent
I have used a Ryrie Study Bible for years, and the combination of the NAS translation with Charles Ryrie's notes is wonderful. The new expanded edition is filled with even more well done maps, information, and important asides to the Bible. This is a wonderful edition of the Holy Bible, and would make a wonderful addition to anyone's study.

Stop Negotiating With Your Teen: Strategies for Parenting Your Angry, Manipulative, Moody, or Depressed Adolescent
Published in Paperback by Perigee (06 August, 2002)
Author: Janet Sasson Edgette
Average review score:

A Must Have for All Parents!
This may be the most sensible, wise, clear and reader friendly book about parenting adolescents that I have read. Clearly the author not only cares about kids, but also knows how to help parents get untangled from the conflict and confusion of trying to understand and guide today's teens. Written with genuineness and humor, I can't imagine any parent not finding themselves between the pages, laughing and learning and coming out with more clarity and a saner family life! I work in a school district and we have included multiple copies for our parent resource library -- an invaluable addition.

Finally- a parenting book that's Real
This book helps to FINALLY get the adult out of the same old cycles in fighting with their teen. I liked the fact that it does NOT encourage more manipulative behavior in order to regain control, but gets down to what's really going on. Parents - and teachers, too- can get invaluable guidance in restructuring conversations with their teens so that they mean something. I also like the fact that personal responsibilty and accountability is stressed, and placed where it belongs. The chapters on case histories were the most helpful to me, as they gave inventive- and sometimes funny-examples of how parents solved their long-time problems. Easy to read, and very engaging!

Excellent resource for parents
I have found Janet Sasson Edgette's book, 'Stop Negotiating With Your Teen....', to be an invaluable tool for the parents of my adolescent clients. This book, I believe, is a MUST for ALL parents as it outlines a meaningful, candid, and guenuine syle of commuication between parents and teens.

Parents of younger children will also be afforded an opportunity to establish an empowering way of being/communicating with their children from the learnings available in this work.

The strategies discussed throughout this volume can be easily absorbed and thus implmented effectively. A stimulating and quick read, I highly recommend 'Stop Negotiating With Your Teen...'
